Overview

Exercise and Sport Science is an in-depth study and exposure to the scientific basis of physical activity, exercise, and sport that enhances human movement, health, fitness, and performance.

The curriculum includes courses in kinesiology, motor skill behavior, biomechanics, injury care and prevention, exercise and aging, and others. Electives are selected based on student interest and career goals within five areas of emphasis: 1) Pre-Physical Therapy; 2) Fitness Specialist; 3) Athletic Training; 4) Pre-medicine or Physician Assistant; 5) or Pre-graduate Studies such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, exercise and sport psychology, or measurement.

Employment is available in fitness and sport enterprises, coaching, business, hospitals and sports medicine clinics, YMCAs and community recreation, the government, and military. Many graduates pursue additional study in physical therapy, athletic training, or other medical specialties such as adult fitness or cardiac rehabilitation.
