Overview

The dual A.B. in History and B.S.Ed. in Social Studies Education program at UGA focuses on preparing students to teach social studies with an emphasis in either economics, history, political science, or geography.

Graduates of this program will be prepared for teacher certification in grades 6-12 through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. You will take a range of coursework, including surveys with general overviews of core issues in African, American, Asian, Latin American, Western, and World History. This cohort-based program integrates hands-on experience to build subject-area knowledge, pedagogical skills, and methods.

Careers are available as teachers in schools, museums, and historic sites; researchers in historical organizations, resource management, think tanks, and preservation; communication journalists, editors, and multimedia producers; information managers such as archivists and librarians; advocates in law, litigation, and legislative support; and contractors for corporations and nonprofit organizations.
