Overview
A student admitted to the Honors Program with academic interests in the social, biological, or physical and mathematical sciences for which no suitable major is offered by any single department in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences may pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS).
The Honors IDS major at the University of Georgia is a rigorous one that requires early planning on the student’s part and coordination with the IDS program director. It is not designed for students who have taken a number of courses in various areas or cannot settle on a major, but for students who have a plan for a course of study that meets certain requirements they have set for themselves.
Students take a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework consisting of a coherent pattern of courses in two or more disciplines, at least one of which resides within Franklin College. An Honors Thesis written on a topic of special interest to the student completes the degree.
