Overview

Management information systems (MIS) are computer systems that analyze and facilitate strategic and operational activities so that organizations can be managed efficiently and effectively.

The MIS major at the University of Georgia is designed to educate future information systems professionals and managers; it is not designed to train students for professional careers as computer scientists or technicians.  It currently ranks as the 10th best MIS undergraduate program among public universities in the nation per U.S. News and World Report.

The curriculum is interdisciplinary, with courses available in systems analysis and design, data management, network-based application development, computer programming in business, managing information resources, project management, web applications, and others.  (Refer to the Pre-Business major for information on applying.)

Graduates become MIS specialists in a given functional area, such as production or finance, and serve as the liaison between MIS and that functional area.  Employment opportunities are available as IT and business consultants, business process analysts, data analysts, app developers, risk and security specialists, hardware/software vendors, and many others.
