Overview

The Sport Management degree at the University of Georgia provides students with the interdisciplinary knowledge, professional application, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills necessary to effectively manage sport and exercise programs.

Proficient application of business principles to the sport industry distinguishes this program; students develop a foundation in finance, economics, budgeting, marketing, law, governance and policy, facility design, event operations, and human resources management for application in the sport industry while building knowledge and skills to effectively communicate their ideas through both written and oral forms of presentation.

Students are equipped to work with and through diverse groups of people to achieve stated organizational goals of sport teams, college athletic departments, sport marketing and public relations firms, sports agencies, and health and fitness facilities. Graduate programs in sport management, business administration, public administration, law, communications, and journalism are additional options.

Alex Van Dyke
Class of 2017

"Being six feet tall I was often asked if I played basketball or volleyball.  I always felt discouraged answering, no. I wanted to play sports, but complications prevented me from passing a physical. It seemed that the only place for me was on the sidelines, but I didn’t settle for that.  I found myself in leadership positions, planning trips, and managing budgets and events as I was entering high school. I learned that I was better at the behind the scenes execution of sporting events, than being a physical part of the team experience. That knack for planning is why I chose Sport Management as my major; a program where I combine my passions with my strengths.”
